I hope you have been surviving the heat records the Valley has been breaking so far this Summer! It is a new year for the AFWA organization, and with that, comes an old, but slightly new Board of Directors. Most roles have remained the same for the 2017-2018 year, however, we have added Danielle Mowery as our President-Elect and are excited to have her join the board!
We have a very exciting lineup coming for the rest of the year and all of our meetings are posted on the website. We are excited to offer our first breakfast meeting in October on a subject that is becoming more and more popular in Arizona - the R&D Tax Credit. This meeting will have a limited # of tickets, so make sure to register early (and if you register before September 15, you'll receive a $5 discount on tickets!). Here is a brief outline of the upcoming meetings:
July 20, 2017 - Time to Re-Energize
August 17, 2017 - Accounting Updates (2 CPE)
September 21, 2017 - Cost Segregation Authority (2 CPE)
October 19, 2017 - Benefits of the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit and the Domestic Production Activities Deduction (DPAD) (2 CPE)
December 14, 2017 - Annual Holiday Meeting & Basket Silent Auction (Fun! Fun! Fun!)
If you have not already seen, the AFWA Annual Conference, Women Who Count 2017, is going to be held in Alexandria, VA.
AFWA’s Women Who Count National Conference offers technical education to keep you competitive and professional development to empower your potential. Not only will you earn quality CPE through both technical and professional development tracks, you’ll be introduced to a network of hundreds of accounting and finance professionals, from emerging leaders to experienced industry professionals. Register before August 16th and receive an early bird discount.
Lastly, as we look to bring in new faces and expand our networks, I challenge you to forward this email, register for one of our meetings or both! We are all so busy today with careers, families, and everything in between, but for me, I look forward to this meeting each month because it gives me a few hours to laugh with people who understand my frustrations at work, enjoy a glass of wine and nice dinner without a child yelling "mommy" 1,600 times in a span of 2 hours, and the information I get from our speakers is always top notch! Even if it doesn't pertain directly to me, jobs can change anytime and staying up to date on all topics is important. So I hope to see you at a meeting soon!
Stay cool and safe out there!
